Environment & sustainability Section

Mandate:

 The Environment and Sustainability section is the guardian of Kohat’s natural heritage and the champion of sustainable development practices. Its core mandate is to integrate environmental considerations into all aspects of UADA’s work, ensuring that the city’s growth is environmentally responsible, resource-efficient, and resilient to climate change.

Responsibilities

        Environmental Impact                       Assessment (EIA):
  • Conduct comprehensive EIAs for all UADA projects to assess potential environmental impacts and propose mitigation measures.
  • Ensure compliance   with environmental   laws, regulations, and standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and implement environmental management plans to minimize negative impacts and enhance positive outcomes.
         Green Building Standards:
  • Develop and promote green building standards and guide lines for new construction and renovation projects in Kohat.
  • Encourage the use of sustainable materials, energy efficient technologies ,and water conservation practices.
  • Certify buildings that meet green building standards and provide incentives for their adoption.
       Renewable Energy and                       Energy Efficiency:
  • Promote the use of renewable energy sources ,such as solar and wind power, in UADA projects and the wider community.
  • Implement energy efficiency measures in public buildings and infrastructure.
  • Develop and support initiatives that encourage energy conservation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
         Parks ,Green Spaces, and                 Natural Areas:
  • Plan, design, and manage parks, green spaces ,and natural areas to enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal, biodiversity, and recreational opportunities.
  • Protect and restore  natural habitats ,such as wet land sand forests ,to maintain ecological balance.
  • Develop and implement urban forestry programs to increase tree cover and improve air quality.
       Environmental Awareness            and Education:
  • Conduct public awareness campaigns to educate residents and businesses about environmental issues and sustainable practices.
  • Develop educational programs for schools and community groups to promote environmental stewardship.
  • Partner with local organizations and stakeholders to fostera culture of environmental responsibility.

Job Descriptions

  • Director of Environment and Sustainability: Provides over all leader ship and strategic direction for the section. Oversees EIA, green building standards, renewable energy initiatives, park management, and environmental education.
  • Environmental Scientists: Conduct EIAs, develop environmental management plans, and monitor environmental compliance.
  • Green Building Specialists: Develop and promote green building standards, certify buildings, and provide technical assistance to project teams.
  • Renewable Energy Engineers: Design and implement renewable energy projects, promote energy efficiency, and develop energy conservation programs.
  • Park Managers: Plan, design, and manage parks, green spaces, and natural areas.
  • Environmental Educators: Develop and deliver environmental education programs for schools, community groups, and the general public.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Environmental Compliance Rate:   Percentage of UADA projects that comply with environmental regulations and standards.
  • Green Building Adoption Rate:   Percentage of new construction and renovation projects that meet green building standards.
  • Renewable Energy Generation: Amount of renewable energy generated by UADA projects and the wider community.
  • Energy Efficiency Improvement: Reduction in energy consumption in public buildings and infrastructure.
  • Park and Green Space Accessibility: Percentage of residents with access to parks and green spaces within a 10-minute walk.
  • Environmental Awareness Index: A composite measure of public awareness and understanding of environmental issues.
