Heritage & Conservation Section

Mandate

 The Heritage and Conservation section is the custodian of Kohat’s cultural legacy and historical identity. Its core mandate is to preserve and promote the city’s rich heritage, ensuring that its unique character is not lost amidst modernization and development.

Responsibilities

        Heritage Identification and            Documentation:
  • Conduct comprehensive surveys and research to identify and document heritage sites, buildings, artifacts, and intangible cultural practices.
  • Create and maintain adetailed inventory of Kohat’s heritage assets ,including their historical significance, architectural features, and cultural value.
  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems(GIS) and other technologies to map and visualize heritage resources.
       Conservation Planning and           Implementation:

        Develop conservation plans and guidelines for individual heritage sites and the broader historic environment.

  1. Implement preservation and restoration projects to protect and enhance heritage assets.
  2. Collaborate with property owners, community groups, and government agencies to ensure the long-term sustainability of conservation efforts.
       Heritage Tourism Promotion:
  • Develop and promote heritage tourism initiatives that showcase Kohat’s unique cultural and historical attractions.
  • Create interpretive materials ,such as brochures, maps, and audio guides ,to enhance visitor experience and understanding.
  • Organize cultural events, festivals, and exhibitions to celebrate Kohat’s heritage and attract tourists.
       Heritage Awareness and                   Education:
  • Conduct public awareness campaigns to educate residents and visitors about the importance of heritage conservation.
  • Develop educational programs for schools and community groups to foster appreciation for Kohat’s cultural legacy.
  • Partner with local museums, historical societies, and cultural institutions to promote heritage education and research.
 
 

Job Descriptions

  • Director of Heritage and Conservation: Provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the section. Oversees heritage identification, conservation planning, tourism promotion, and awareness initiatives.
  • Heritage Researchers and Surveyors: Conduct research, surveys, and documentation of heritage assets.
  • Conservation Architects and Planners: Develop conservation plans and guidelines, oversee restoration projects, and provide technical expertise.
  • Heritage Tourism Officers: Develop and promote heritage tourism initiatives, create interpretive materials, and organize cultural events.
  • Heritage Educators: Develop and deliver educational programs for schools, community groups, and the general public

  • Heritage Assets Documented: Number of heritage sites, buildings, and artifacts densified and documented.
  • Conservation Projects Completed: Number of heritage assets conserved or

  • Heritage Awareness Index: A composite measure of public awareness and appreciation for Kohat’s heritage.
  • Community Engagement: Level of community involvement in heritage conservation and tourism initiatives.
